Lit Circle Reflection
During the first Lit Circle discussion, I did particularly well with the preparation portion of the assignment. I filled out approximately two pages of notes that would help me excel in this discussion. I also did well with my overall energy and equal participation. I had loads of ideas that I consistently shared, while allowing others to speak. Preparation, participation, and energy were good parts of my discussion; however, I did not do as well with the depth of discussion and active listening portions. I need to specifically work on listening to others while they speak. Sometimes I allow myself to get carried away with my ideas that I forget to listen to my group members. Since my job for this discussion was to be the summarizer, the majority of my work was shallow. I need to find a deeper meaning in my ideas and work on the development portion of my thoughts. To improve my work for the second discussion, I read the chapters twice trying to capture every detail while putting meaning to the words. I also made sure I looked all my group members in the eyes during the actual discussion. This would enable myself to focus better. My group is doing a fantastic job with keeping the conversation flowing and throwing out good ideas and themes. My group needs to work on equal participation because half of us are talking and sharing the ideas, while the other half is listening. In order to improve this, we made a talking circle. The talking circle enables everyone to share at least one idea or opinion during each job. We also need to improve on preparation. In order to improve this, we printed out extra resaerch and marked passages that had to do with each person's job. I predict that our group will improve dramatically each discussion because of our enthusiasm and aspirations to do well.
