Reality TV is harmful because of reasons such as poor behavior, awful messages, and the overall fakeness of it. Shows such as Teen Mom, Desperate Housewives, and the Bachelor demonstrate these poor behaviors and decisions. Teen Mom, for example, is about high school girls getting pregnant and having to deal with becoming a mom. These girls receive a lot of attention and money for their actions. This TV program is basically saying that if a girl messes up, then they will receive a starring role on a TV show with a large paycheck. Desperate Housewives is another program that shows women fighting over men and doing absolutely nothing with their lives. This program is describing America's culture as a materialistic lifestyle. Lastly, The Bachelor is a program about a single woman or a man going on a date with 20 or more strangers in a romantic atmosphere. This show is a false image of love and reality because the audience is now believing that if they go to some romantic atmosphere then they will instantly fall in love and live happily ever after. These TV shows are brainwashing people with false images of how life should be.
Some Reality TV, however, has its pros such as being entertaining and influential. For instance, American Idol is about people from all over the country competing for a singing career. The program is broadcasted and people chase their dreams. There are plenty of similar competition shows such as Top Chef, Biggest Loser, and Dancing with the Stars. These shows teach people that they can have hope and live up to any dream they are chasing.
Reality TV can be influential and educational, but most of the reality can be misleading and harmful.
