Tuesday Write #5

Leadership and morality are two key factors that contribute to obtaining a good civilization. Leadership is important because the people of a civilization need some type of control and without control, people will become crazy and harmful. Nothing will get accomplished in a society that is not controlled. A leader or a group of leaders should be in control of a society. In an anarchy, a society would break apart and become out of control. A leader needs to have perspective when making decisions and needs to view the situation as a whole by looking at every aspect. When making decisions, they need to account for all the people and look at the pros and cons of the situation. A leader's main goal is to make sure the society continues to be civilized.

A leader should also have good morals. Morality is important in a successful society because good morals are always necessary in any situation. Having good morals applies to everyone. Morals are the base of decision making and bad morals will cause people to partake in harmful behaviors. Following the laws leads to a peaceful society. If people have bad morals, than they are less likely to not follow the rules of the civilization. Leadership and morality are connected. A good leader will have good morals while a bad leader will have bad morals.

             Morality

The Lord of the Flies civilization seems to be breaking down because of the lack of leadership and good morals. Ralph is the chosen leader of the society. He was chosen by a democracy; however, not everyone agrees with his decisions. This causes some of the kids to break away from him and form a new tribe. This chaos leads to an unstable civilization. The boys actions result to savagery.  Jack, another member on the island, believes that hunting is the most important thing on the island, while Ralph believes that survival and working together are the most important things. Ralph is a strong and smart leader, but part of his civilization does not agree with him. This disagreement leads to the separation. The unstable leadership and different morals are why the civilization is not working.
